Food waste is a major environmental and social issue that has far-reaching consequences. The environmental impact of food waste is significant, as it leads to increased greenhouse gas emissions and wasted resources. When food is thrown away, it ends up in landfills where it decomposes and produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
Food waste also has social implications, as millions of people around the world go hungry every day while perfectly good food is being wasted. In developed countries, consumers often buy more food than they can consume, leading to excess food being thrown away. In developing countries, food waste can occur at various stages of the supply chain due to lack of proper storage and transportation facilities.
Addressing food waste is crucial for both environmental sustainability and social justice. By reducing food waste, we can help alleviate hunger, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and conserve resources. Individuals can make a difference by buying only what they need, properly storing food, and using leftovers creatively. Food businesses can also play a role by implementing waste reduction strategies and donating excess food to those in need. Only through collective efforts can we effectively combat food waste and its negative impacts on the environment and society.
Deforestation is the widespread clearing of forests for various reasons such as agriculture, logging, urban expansion, and mining. This destruction of trees and plant life has detrimental effects on the environment, including loss of biodiversity, soil erosion, disruption of water cycles, and increased greenhouse gas emissions.
One of the most effective solutions to combat deforestation is to plant more trees. By planting trees, we can help restore forests and improve the environment in several ways. Trees help to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the air and combating climate change. They also provide habitat for wildlife, prevent soil erosion, and regulate the water cycle.
We have chosen to partner with Fiorella Migliore, Italian - Paraguayan actress and entrepreneur based in Paraguay where she's working on the field to plant trees in Sitio Tereré.
Sitio Tereré is a space for learning and experiences of reconnecting with nature, inspired by the agroforestry principles with the aim of regenerating ecosystems, producing food and natural medicine both for the earth, animals, insects and microorganisms that inhabit the space, in order to obtain a healthy ecosystem that creates harmony and overabundance: for human beings.
